“This journey isn’t about me, nor about being seen or understood.
This journey is about creating, building bridges,
and letting the contrast in life be a partner.”
– Jennifer Hough
Being Happy 101 – With the next Flight School (our nine-month program) about to start, I’m aware of some pretty powerful insights about my own life, ten of them in fact!
One: Reacting to circumstances definitely leads to drama. Drama always takes me out of my knowing, distracting me from my connection with Innate Wisdom.
Two: My happiness absolutely cannot come from circumstances changing. My happiness must be accessible, regardless of circumstances. It cannot be dependent on how the world is, how the people in my life behave, or an expectation that everything should be perfect. Everything is becoming which, by definition, means it isn’t perfect.
Three: It’s not my job to carry the weight of the world. My job is to show up in love and compassion. It’s not my job to make other people happy but rather to learn to be grounded in my heart. It’s not my job to protect my heart but to emanate from the heart.
Four: I truly don’t need the approval or acceptance of others to be happy. It would be a completely conditional life.
Five: Everything I ever wanted already exists in the field. My job isn’t to intend on it but to presence myself to an already blessed life in which I want for nothing and am thereby playing with everything. From that place, of course, I can have anything. There is no attachment. It takes a lot of discipline and practice.
Six: I’m extremely skeptical of my own knee-jerk reactions. Emotional reactions are simply protective mechanisms devised by the brain. I’m committed to having mastery of the muscle keeping me out of reaction and which brings me back to neutrality. This allows me to receive the answers, giving me results which transcend any circumstance.
Seven: It’s a thrilling ride when able to receive with ease. It takes conscious and deliberate effort at first but it’s clearly the way of living we’re designed for. It’s what I’m designed for.
Eight: I don’t need other people to understand such a unique journey into a thriving operating system but it’s truly my heart’s greatest joy to bring people on that journey. My job is to show up for the people who are ready, not to convince anyone, which is exhausting.
Nine: I’m available for the miraculous. Sometimes I want to force things then I remember we’re all living magnets designed to attract the magnificence life has to offer. I feel so blessed knowing this journey is about becoming, not perfection. For so long I looked for the pretty picture, even achieving it at one point, before realizing that without meaning and fulfillment, it was empty. It all looked beautiful from the outside but I’ve since learned a truly beautiful life emanates from the inside. I had to be willing to differ from the expectations in my mind, and of society.
Ten: Discomfort and contrast inform me there is something I desire that is beyond the difficulty. It doesn’t mean changing my circumstances because, unless I become the person who effortlessly matches the emotional frequency of those desires, I won’t sustain the change.
This journey isn’t about me, nor is it about about being seen or understood. This journey is about creating, building bridges, and letting the contrast in life be a partner.
The muscle gets stronger every day.
I no longer expect perfection from myself. Instead, I play with curiosity on a constantly changing adventure into the unknown, safe in the knowledge that all is as it should be, even when imperfect..
Do I get it right all the time? Absolutely not, but that’s part of the adventure!
My word for this year is ‘grace’. Grace for myself and grace for the journey of others.
Have you chosen your word for this year? I’d love you to share it with me.
